Local News in Brief : House Limit Plan Dropped

The Rolling Hills City Council has decided not to impose a 45-day moratorium on the construction of homes larger than 6,500 square feet and instead directed the Planning Commission to hold public hearings on an ordinance that would limit the size of homes.
Residents who filled council chambers Monday said they opposed a moratorium and considered the maximum limit too low.
In recent years, as Rolling Hills’ land values have risen, residents have sought to build homes as large as 15,000 square feet. Though such construction is legal under building codes, city officials and some residents think it is contrary to the city’s General Plan, which calls for preservation of the rural character of the community.
The commission’s first public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16.
