U.S. regulators are looking into overcharges by firms that provide telephone operator services for such businesses as hotels, the Federal Communications Commission said. Chairman Dennis Patrick said the FCC was evaluating what action if any it should take against the firms, called alternative operating services. An FCC official said there had been about 600 complaints. In addition, two public interest groups, the Telecommunications Research & Action Center and Consumer Action, also filed a complaint with the FCC against five companies.
