SAN DIEGO ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS
The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park four challenge grants totaling $58,600 for its 1988-89 fiscal year. The grants will help underwrite four programs: a documentary photographic project titled “Los Vecinos†(The Neighbors) about the U.S.-Mexico border region; an exhibit of work by Manuel Alvarez Bravo, one of Mexico’s finest photographers; the first American retrospective of Duane Michals and an expansion of the permanent collection with works by living American artists. The NEA guidelines require that the museum match the federal grants dollar for dollar in new contributions.
