Pierce Brosnan, formerly of “Remington Steele,†has the lead role in a six-hour remake of “Around the World in 80 Days†for NBC. Brosnan will play Phileas Fogg, the role David Niven had in the 1956 movie. Eric Idle and Julia Nickson portray the characters that Cantinflas and Shirley MacLaine played earlier. Also in the cast are Peter Ustinov, Lee Remick, Robert Wagner, Jill St. John, John Hillerman, Christopher Lee, Robert Morley and Arielle Dombasle.
Stephanie Zimbalist, Brosnan’s former co-star in “Remington Steele,†plays an American woman whose curiosity about a possible crime leads to a mystery aboard a cruise ship in “The Man in the Brown Suit,†a TV adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel. Also in the CBS movie are Rue McClanahan of “The Golden Girls,†Edward Woodward of “The Equalizer,†Ken Howard, Tony Randall, Nicholas Grace and Simon Dutton.
“Day One,†Peter Wyden’s book about the manufacture and deployment of the atomic bomb, is being made into a three-hour movie for CBS. The cast: Brian Dennehy, Michael Tucker, Hume Cronyn, Richard Dysart, Hal Holbrook, John Houseman, Barnard Hughes, David Ogden Stiers and David Straithern. The film is expected to be broadcast early in 1989.
