Butler, Murray Lead San Fernando to Title
Powered by Mitchell Butler and Tracy Murray, San Fernando Valley defeated Northern California, 90-76, for the championship of the American Roundball Corp. Future Stars Showdown on Saturday night at Notre Dame High.
Butler, the Times’ Valley Player of the Year last season, scored a team-high 23 points for San Fernando Valley.
Murray, the tournament’s most valuable player, added 19 points. The forward from Glendora High averaged 28.4 points in the five-game tournament.
Jody Dags scored a game-high 24 points for Northern California and Ray Kelly added 17.
San Fernando defeated Provo, Utah, 77-63, and Northern California defeated Mid-Valley, 77-61, in the semifinals.
In San Fernando’s semifinal win, Murray scored 24 points, Butler had 19 and Nick Sanderson added 13 points.
Craig Handschu and Chris Dyer had 12 points each for Mid-Valley in its semifinal loss.
Provo defeated Mid Valley, 71-63, in the third-place game.
