Motel Resident in National City Shot to Death
A 29-year-old motel resident in National City was found shot to death early Saturday morning by police who were investigating a report of shots being fired at a bowling alley across the street.
Bruce Middleton, a candy salesman who authorities said lived at the Grand Plaza Inn, was shot once in the chest. He was found lying on a second-story balcony at the motel, 1135 E. Plaza Blvd.
Police Sgt. David Ogilvie said police were called about 1 a.m. to the Plaza Bowl across the street from the motel on a report that shots had been fired. While canvassing the scene, they found the victim shot on the motel balcony.
Ogilvie said several witnesses were interviewed but no suspects had been apprehended.
