Shakespeare Festival Support
On behalf of the Grove Theatre Company (and the playwright), I want to express our appreciation for your June 26 editorial (“Shakespeare Needs Helpâ€). The public support, both financially and emotionally, for the Shakespeare Festival due to the news coverage has been tremendous.
Expressions of support for the theater have been coming in the form of contributions, phone calls, and letters saying keep the festival open. Due to the public support, the theater board of trustees recently decided to commit to the entire Shakespeare season at the Grove. While such a commitment may be risky given our funding problems, we feel that our regular subscribers and new patrons deserve to know now that the entire season will occur as planned at our traditionally high level of quality.
The Grove Theatre Company is extremely proud of the theater experiences it provides to Garden Grove residents and all of Orange County. We feel that Orange County has created its own identity as an area rich in cultural opportunities; we are extremely pleased to have been part of that growth by offering an experience as unique as the Grove Shakespeare Festival. If the strong public support continues, we can ensure that Shakespeare continues to live in Garden Grove.
