Costa Mesa Man Arrested in Shooting
A Costa Mesa man was shot in the legs Saturday afternoon after he angered another man by waking him from a nap, police said.
James William Walker, 20, of Costa Mesa was in good condition at College Park Hospital, being treated for gunshot wounds to both legs, Kent said.
Leon Richard Prete, 44, of Costa Mesa was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held in the Costa Mesa Jail, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Alan Kent. Bail was set at $250,000.
The incident occurred about 2 p.m. in the 2000 block of Maple Avenue in Costa Mesa, Kent said. When Walker was at Prete’s bedroom door trying to wake him up, Prete opened the door and shot him, Kent said. The bullet went through his left leg and was lodged in his right leg, Kent said.
