Is Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s new self-titled solo album selling too well? Well, it’s selling well enough that many area record stores are sold out--and blaming Warner Bros. for not making enough albums, tapes and CDs.
“We did get caught short,†acknowledged Warners exec Bob Merlis, who said the label had already sold 200,000 copies but at mid-week was still unable to fill requests for “about 7,500†additional copies. “But our shipping policy is based on orders--and I don’t think retailers realized how popular this album would be. When we suddenly got lots of re-orders, we just couldn’t fill them all immediately.â€
