Soviet Blast Furnace Explodes

MOSCOW — A giant blast furnace has exploded at a steel plant in the Ukrainian city of Zaporozhe, killing several people, the Soviet government newspaper Izvestia reported today. A witness said the furnace exploded “like a volcano” but Izvestia did not say when the accident occurred or give a precise casualty toll.
