Murder Charge Filed in Overdose Death

A Canoga Park man who helped a friend inject himself with a fatal dose of heroin was charged with murder Wednesday, authorities said.
Peter Demidow, 35, was arrested Sunday morning after the death of Alden Cass Warder, 37, who was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his Encino home, in the 4200 block of Mooncrest Place.
Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Stephen Baron said Demidow aided Warder in the injection of heroin before Warder collapsed and died. Toxicological test results are pending, but an autopsy of Warder’s body concluded that the cause of death was consistent with heroin overdose, officials said.
Baron said aiding and abetting of a fatal overdose is considered murder under California law. Demidow was being held at the West Valley jail on $50,000 bail.
