A self-employed San Diego construction worker died at 8:43 Wednesday morning after sliding off California 54 in his pickup truck, police said.
Alexander Halston, 42, of the 2900 block of Alta View Drive, was westbound about half a mile east of Valley Road when he switched lanes and slid off the road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Richard Clopine.
The truck flipped twice and Halston was thrown from the vehicle, Clopine said. Halston died at the scene of head injuries, Deputy Coroner Dan Matticks said.
Clopine said Halston was not wearing a seat belt and was driving about 50 m.p.h.
