Monterey Park : Sewer Line to Be Improved
- Share via
As a boost to city officials’ plans to attract new business development along Atlantic Boulevard, $535,000 worth of improvements are being made to one of the main sewer lines.
Sewers have been overburdened by rapid population growth, and the 4-month project, funded by the county Sanitation Districts, will alleviate many problems, Mayor Christopher F. Houseman said. The line to be improved runs along Loma Verde Street and Ynez Avenue, north of El Repetto Drive and south of Harding Avenue.
Last year, some city officials blamed sewer problems on Asian restaurants, saying the cooking oil they use was clogging the sewers. The city ordered grease traps installed and followed up with inspections, easing some of the difficulties, officials said.
