Ailing Eastern Airlines is considering laying off as many as 4,000 employees and making drastic service reductions affecting 15 to 20 cities, the Miami Herald reported. Eastern spokeswoman Karen Ceremsak said “the fall schedule and manpower requirements are still being developed.” The layoffs would affect non-union airport and reservations employees and Eastern’s service primarily in the West, especially in the airline’s Kansas City hub, according to the Herald.
