Centennial Posters to Be Given at Fair

Posters depicting 100 years of sports history in Orange County will be given away tonight at the Orange County Fair.

The full-color poster, an assemblage of photos and memorabilia created by artist Don Lesher, was commissioned by the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame to celebrate the county’s centennial. It includes hurdler Fred Kelly’s 1912 Olympic gold medal, Rod Carew’s bat and Jack Youngblood’s Ram uniform.

The assemblage itself will be on display in the main mall of the fairgrounds.

Hall of Fame members who will be in attendance tonight include Youngblood, jockey Alex Maese, basketball player George Yardley, Olympians Sammy Lee, Shirley Babashoff and Pat McCormick, sailing legend Hobie Alter, former Anaheim High football star Mickey Flynn and former Orange Coast College athletic director Wendell Pickens. They will autograph posters from 7 to 9 p.m.
