Three New England men have arrived in San Diego, completing a 50-day, cross-country bicycle journey to raise money for a planned Providence, R.I., Ronald McDonald House for families of hospitalized children. “It feels great,” said Steven Mollohan, 33, of Derry, N.H. “It’s a major accomplishment for all of us.” He was accompanied on the 3,600-mile trek by his brother, Brian Mollohan, 29, of Coventry, R.I., and friend Ray Faria, 28, of Fall River, Mass. The three have raised several thousand dollars in pledges and the fund-raising effort is continuing, Steven Mollohan said. The cyclists averaged 75 to 100 miles a day, with the longest leg of the trip a 150-mile stretch in Kansas from Newton to Dodge City. But Steven Mollohan, who undertook the journey to honor Jim McGuiness of Enfield, Conn., a family friend who died of leukemia two months ago, said the difficult trip was worthwhile. The more than 100 Ronald McDonald houses nationwide allow families of seriously ill children to remain near hospitals where the youngsters are being treated.
