A 12-year-old boy from the Jewish West Bank settlement of Gidot Shomron was struck in the eye by a rock while riding in the family car in the nearby Arab city of Qalqiliya, the army said. Dozens of Jewish settlers, enraged by the incident, tried to enter Qalqiliya but were turned away by soldiers, the army said. The boy was reported in good condition, according to hospital officials, who also reported that a second Palestinian had been shot and wounded in Wednesday’s clash with Israeli troops in the West Bank town of Nablus. Previously, one Palestinian was reported wounded by troops who were sent in to quell protests triggered by the deaths of two teen-agers from bullet wounds suffered in an earlier clash with troops. In another development, the army identified an Israeli soldier killed in a battle with Shia Muslim guerrillas in southern Lebanon as Lt. Uri Maoz, 22. Three guerrillas also were killed, it said.
