Director Bernardo Bertolucci is giving the birthday gift that keeps on giving: a 16-millimeter print of his Oscar-winning film “The Last Emperor” to imprisoned black South African leader Nelson Mandela. Mandela, 70, could not obtain a copy of the film in South Africa, according to South African activist lawyer Dullah Omar, and had expressed a desire to see the film. Bertolucci and British director Sir Richard Attenborough intervened, and a print was produced for Mandela from the Italian Consulate in Johannesburg.
