Long Beach : Law to Oust Sex Businesses

Twelve adult entertainment businesses, including the Lakewood and Grand Prix theaters, will have to close within the next few years, the Long Beach City Council decided this week.

The new ordinance council members approved Tuesday affects X-rated shops and adult hotel/motels in Long Beach that do not conform to zoning regulations because they were built before 1977, when adult entertainment zoning regulations were adopted.

The businesses have two years to move, but they may apply for an extension of up to three years. The law is patterned after a similar measure in Los Angeles, where officials have prohibited adult bookstores, massage parlors, X-rated movie theaters and other sexually oriented establishments within 500 feet of homes.
