Now, Here Was an Impressive KO

In all respects, the “knockout” of Martina Navratilova by Steffi Graf was more decisive and impressive than that of Mike Tyson over Michael Spinks.

Neither Mike nor Michael ever beat anyone with real credentials.

When Graf dominated Navratilova at Wimbledon, tennis fans knew they were seeing the two best competing for the championship.

The only similarity in the contests is that “youth will be served” and the distinct possibility of a dynasty has been established.

But there, too, the comparison is ludicrous because Tyson can do nothing to retain his championship, while Graf must compete continually to retain her title.

In short, boxing needs to clean up its racket, if it is to compete with tennis.
