SAN DIEGO — The Chargers traded an undisclosed 1990 draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts Friday in exchange for a three-year veteran defensive back, Leonard Coleman.
Coleman was a four-year starter at Vanderbilt and was the eighth player picked in the 1984 draft. He was drafted as a cornerback, but the Colts eventually moved him to safety when he had problems with man-to-man coverage.
Coleman, who is 6-feet 2-inches tall and weighs 201 pounds, started 16 games in 1986. But he spent most of the 1987 season on the inactive list with minor injuries.
He is the cousin of Minnesota Viking wide receiver Anthony Carter.
San Diego State’s home opener Sunday, Sept. 11, against Air Force will be televised on ESPN, the network announced Friday. Kickoff time at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium has been moved up a half hour to 6:30 p.m. to accommodate the telecast. The stadium is also being used that Sunday for a Padre game against the Atlanta Braves. The starting time for that game remains at 12:05 p.m.
