SAN FRANCISCO — Richard E. Guggenhime, a prominent San Francisco attorney and one-time president of the Stanford University Board of Trustees, died Wednesday at Children’s Hospital. He was 79.
Guggenhime, a native and resident of San Francisco most of his life, joined the law firm of Heller, Ehrman, White and McAuliffe in 1932. He headed the firm from 1959 to 1973 and during that period the firm more than tripled in size.

A memorial service is planned at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Stanford Memorial Church.
