Beverly Hills : Drive-Up Business Limitations
Under a temporary ordinance that is expected to be made permanent later this year, it will be more difficult for a drive-in, drive-up or drive-through business in Beverly Hills to open in the future.
Last year, the City Council adopted the temporary ordinance after residents complained that such businesses, particularly drive-up restaurants, create problems with noise, traffic, trash and unpleasant odors. The temporary ordinance requires such establishments to obtain a conditional-use permit, which is reviewed by the Planning Commission.
According to the Planning Department, in the past year there have not been any applications for such businesses. There is only one drive-up, drive-through or drive-in business in Beverly Hills, a dry cleaning establishment.
On Tuesday, the City Council extended the temporary ordinance for another year to allow the Planning Commission to prepare and formally adopt a permanent ordinance requiring drive-up businesses to obtain a conditional use permit. It is expected to be brought back before the City Council within six months.
