Local News in Brief : Approval Seen for Wharf Fee
The City Council is expected to give final approval on July 19 to an increase in the wharfage fee for passengers on cross-channel boats to Avalon. The round-trip fee would go up to $1.50 from $1.20.
The increase, which will take effect Jan. 1, 1989, will pay for new office space for boat services at the Cabrillo Mole. It also will pay for the city’s contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors for boat rescue, lifeguard, paramedic and underwater rescue and recovery services. The cost of those services has risen to $46,000 per year from $5,000 last year.
