Suspect in Robbery Dies After Capture
A man police allege robbed a University City drugstore of depressants and sleeping pills died shortly after being taken into custody by San Diego police Wednesday morning, a spokesman said.
The man was identified as Alexander Irvin Primeaux II, 33, who, a spokeswoman for the San Diego County coroner noted, had “a 20-year history of drug abuse, a 10-year history of heroin addiction and numerous incarcerations for drug-related offenses.†Primeaux lived in University City.
Police said Primeaux apparently consumed some of the stolen medication before his arrest and passed out in the back seat of a squad car. Police and paramedics tried to revive him but failed. He was pronounced dead at Physicians & Surgeons Hospital.
He was taken into custody about 11 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators said he commandeered a taxi and had it driven to the Thrifty drugstore in the 4000 block of Governor Avenue. After the store was robbed, he forced a cabdriver to take him to a Taco Bell restaurant on 25th Street, according to police.
