Let the Library Ruling Stand
The Friends of the Library urge the Monterey Park City Council to reconsider its decision to appeal a ruling by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ricardo Torres. He ruled that the city overstepped its authority by disbanding the Bruggemeyer Memorial Library’s Board of Trustees. The council’s decision was politically motivated. The judge affirmed that the state code protecting libraries from the political process had been violated.
Our library is one of the finest in the San Gabriel Valley because of the dedication of the Board of Trustees and our community.
We urge the council not to waste another $10,000 of taxpayers’ money on an appeal lacking in merit. The money should be used for books and improved services to our library users.
