Covina : Police Reward Safe Drivers

Through August, 50 motorists in Covina who obey all traffic rules, are courteous to other drivers and generally drive the straight and narrow are going to be pulled over by police.

But instead of receiving a citation, these drivers will receive a free prime rib dinner.

The Police Department and the Velvet Turtle restaurant are sponsoring a promotion to recognize good drivers.

Police Chief John Lentz said the program gives good drivers recognition. He said a secondary benefit, although a “long shot,” may be a reduction in the stress motorists feel when seeing a police car in their rear-view mirror.
