The Brea Mall’s new parking garage had been open less than an hour last week when one of its first guests just about flew through the entrance.

One of the two-level garage’s first set of wheels belonged to a skateboarder who came barreling in.

The garage, northeast of the Nordstrom store, adds 405 spaces to Brea Mall’s parking. Its opening marks the completion of phase one of the Brea Mall’s $80-million renovation and expansion project.

Mall officials had advertised a free tote bag stuffed with complimentary goodies to the first 50 people who drove through the garage last week. Sure enough, they kept their promise--even to the skateboarder, who didn’t roll away empty-handed.

“He’s got four wheels,†said one Brea official, shrugging. “He qualified.â€
