TV RATINGS . . . THE NON-RERUNS : ‘Nightingales’ Soars as ABC Plunges
Aaron Spelling found himself in a partially familiar place Wednesday. His TV movie “Nightingales,†about a group of student nurses, topped the A. C. Nielsen ratings in the tradition of such other Spelling productions as “Dynasty,†but the network it was on, NBC, was different. The movie, a pilot for a possible series, was Spelling’s first production since severing his long-time exclusive deal with ABC. Ironically, ABC registered its lowest weekly prime-time average in history--an 8, seven-tenths of a point below the previous low rating that it got two weeks ago and in July, 1985. With nine of the Top 10 programs, NBC easily won the week with an 11.7 average; CBS got a 9.6. Each ratings point represents 886,000 households. For the complete Nielsen list, see Page 9.
Show Points Share 1. “Nightingales†18.9 33 (NBC Sunday Night Movie) 18.â€60 Minutes†12.5 33 (CBS) 23.â€Blue Skies†11.1 21 (CBS) 27.â€20/20†10.8 22 (ABC) 29.â€48 Hours: On Gang Street†10.7 21 (CBS) * “Star-Spangled Celebration†6.4 12 (ABC)
* ABC’s Fourth of July special came a day early and apparently didn’t catch viewers in a celebratory mood. The two-hour program ran a dismal third in its Sunday-night time slot, losing to reruns of two TV movies--â€Brass†on CBS and “Crash Course†on NBC.
