San Diego Gas & Electric on Friday...
San Diego Gas & Electric on Friday asked the state Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for authority to merge with Tucson Electric Power. On Friday, Tucson Electric requested similar authority from the Arizona Corporate Commission and the FERC.
The two utilities announced their intended merger in early June. The approval process, which includes votes by shareholders of both utilities, is expected to take as long as a year, said SDG&E; general counsel Stephen Baum.
Friday’s “bare-bones†filing will be augmented by other filings once a joint proxy statement is approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Baum said Friday.
Both the PUC and FERC will hold hearings on SDG&E;’s application in the fall, Baum said.
