Mexican voters go to the polls today to elect a president, and local Spanish-language station KMEX-TV Channel 34 will be on hand in Mexico City with live special reports on the issues and results of this critical and often controversial election. Felipe Munoz, Channel 34’s acting news director, and Jaime Garcia, producer of the station’s 6 p.m. newscast, “Noticiero 34,” will broadcast their reports tonight and Thursday at 6 p.m. Citing recent polls that indicate that this promises to be one of the closest presidential elections in the economically troubled nation in 30 years, KMEX decided that the event is of extraordinary interest to the Latino community of Southern California and warrants the additional on-the-spot coverage.
