Datron Systems Wins $8-Million Navy Contract

Datron Systems, a Simi Valley-based maker of satellite communications and electronic defense systems, was awarded an $8-million Navy contract to build satellite antenna stations for use on ships.

Thomas Baker, Datron’s chief financial officer, said the company does not yet know exactly how many stations it will build under the contract, which expires June 1, 1990. However, he said the Navy’s initial order under the contract calls for 51 stations to be built at a cost of $3.4 million.

Of those 51 antenna stations, roughly 66% will be purchased by the Navy, while 24% will be sold to Canada and 10% to Japan under a U.S. sales program with foreign defense forces, Baker said.
