Drive-By Shooting Fatally Wounds Man, 31, in South-Central L.A.

A 31-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in South-Central Los Angeles early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Los Angeles police said Melvin Turner was fatally wounded in the upper torso by shots fired at 2:45 a.m. from a small foreign car in the 3400 block of West Hyde Park Boulevard, near Victoria Avenue. He died 20 minutes later at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital.
Police do not know if the shooting was gang-related and know of no motive or suspect, said Lt. Mark Leap of the 77th Street Division.
There have been more than 300 drive-by shootings in South Los Angeles this year, according to police. As of May, 96 people had been killed in Los Angeles as a result of gang-related violence, 38 of them in drive-by shootings.
