Irish police found a mortar bomb factory and nearly 500 pounds of homemade explosives at a farm near the Irish Republic’s border with Northern Ireland. The cache included 16 mortar tubes, half of them packed with explosives, and a launching frame in an underground bunker inside a hay shed at the farm at Coote Hill in County Cavan. They said the mortars would have been used against security forces in Northern Ireland, where the outlawed Irish Republican Army is fighting to end British rule.
