State Senate Passes Budget

SACRAMENTO — The state Senate approved a $44.2-billion state budget today that backers said was the most reasonable possible given the $1-billion tax shortfall. The vote was 34 to 2 for the spending plan for the fiscal year that begins Friday. The measure was sent to the Assembly for action.
