Memorial for AIDS Victims

I found it difficult to comprehend or believe that a memorial should be given in honor of those who had died from the AIDS virus. Though it is very unfortunate so many have loss their lives to it--why not a shrine to those who have died of lung cancer due to smoking, cirrhosis of the liver from alcoholism, etc.
