An 11-year-old girl died early Monday from head injuries suffered when she was struck by a speeding motorcyclist who left her in a Compton street while he sought medical care for a cut on his arm, police said.
Lakesha Alexander, who lived near the scene of the accident in the 1000 block of E. Peck Street, was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Lt. Steven Roller said.
Rodney Fox, 20, who lives two two blocks away, was arrested while being treated at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood shortly after the accident at 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
Fox, who was released on $1,000 bail, will be booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, Roller said. He was driving his motorcycle 50 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone when Alexander ran into the road and was struck, Roller said.
Neighbors told police that Fox, who fell from the bike, “got up and drove away nursing his arm,” Roller said.
