Capturing a ‘Feeling’

Paul Dean’s May 1 story on St. Croix (and the Buccaneer hotel) certainly made it a destination of choice for everyone who saw the article. We owe him many thanks for giving us such a wonderful introduction to your readership. For those of us who live on St. Croix and work at the Buccaneer, it is pleasing having someone capture the “feel” of our place.
Articles on travel so frequently focus on the physical aspects of a destination, without trying to impart any deeper understanding to the potential traveler. One result of this is that all too often our visitors bring with them expectations of finding a piece of mainland America that just happens to be set down in the Caribbean. This state of mind makes it more difficult for them to relax and enjoy their time with us.
