Expats Abroad

Since World War II hundreds of thousands of Americans have lived and worked overseas. Many of these former expatriates, or “expats” as we tend to call ourselves, read your Travel Section to plan vacations to former host countries or to seek new experiences in other parts of the world. Expats range from former Peace Corps volunteers to overseas representatives of major corporations. We have found, however, that their overseas experiences give them a different perspective from that of the casual traveler.
My wife Carolyne and I head a new organization that we call X/XPATS. It is for expats who like to travel, who already know how to cope with passports and foreign plumbing and who would like to visit new places with other expats whose interests in foreign cultures may be different from those of first-time travelers abroad. Interested readers can send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope to obtain more details about the group and its trips.
