Good News Caucus Cancels Conference

Good News, the evangelical caucus within the United Methodist Church, has canceled its scheduled July 18-21 convocation in Tulsa, Okla.
According to a full-page advertisement that the group ran in its bimonthly magazine, the convocation was canceled “due to low registrations” and “heavy competition” from other events of interest to evangelical Methodists.
However, according to Good News spokesman James Robb, the organization is not discouraged. He said 150 to 200 people had pre-registered, but Good News thought that 600 to 700 registrants were needed to break even.
He said the cancellation is the first in the 18-year history of the organization and suggested that next year’s convocation location, Lake Junaluska, N.C., will be better received.
