Lynne Cox of Los Alamitos plans to start cold-water training at Seattle today for her attempt to swim Lake Baikal in the Soviet Union in August.
Cox has been given permission by the Soviets to make the first attempt to swim across the 18 x 50-mile Siberian lake in 50-degree water.
She will work out today, Saturday and Sunday in Puget Sound, where the waters are reported to be 54 degrees.
