Governor Vetoes Helmet Bill
If the “Easy Rider” philosophy is so important to motorcyclists, and if their concern for personal freedom (as opposed to personal irresponsibility) in the matter of wearing helmets is really sincere and vital, I have a suggestion for an action that would convince Doubting Thomases such as myself. Let their lobbyists work on the Legislature and the governor to establish a special tax on motorcyclists, the proceeds of which would go for all medical costs, and lifetime care as required for injured and crippled cyclists who suffer head injuries while not wearing helmets. If my insurance premiums and my taxes will not be required to care for these freedom-loving riders, fine. Let’s find out if there’s money where their mouths are.
