Compton : Walk Against Drugs, Crime

Sports and entertainment personalities will be on hand Saturday for Compton’s march and multicultural festival to promote unity and solidarity against drugs and crime in city neighborhoods.

Chris McLemore of the Los Angeles Raiders will be there, along with Jim Woodard of the motion picture “Hollywood Shuffle.” Other movie personalities expected to attend are Monica Calhoun of the movie “Bagdad Cafe,” Ken Sego of “Nightmare on Elm Street” and Haskell Anderson of “Traces.” From the television show “What’s Happening,” Leland Smith will attend.

Mickey Mouse, Big Bird, the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf will also be there. The Los Angeles Children’s Museum will operate a craft workshop for children. The day’s activities are all free.

The event, which takes place from noon to 6 p.m. at Lueders Park, is being sponsored by the city’s Block Club Commission and by the Killen Place Block Club. Organizers of the festival expect hundreds of young people to take part in the march against drugs and crime. It will begin at 11 a.m. on Killen Place and end at the park.
