Pasadena : Church Opens AIDS Center
The All Saints Episcopal Church’s AIDS Service Center in the YWCA was officially opened Monday, creating a base for the program’s expanding AIDS-related services.
The center is the first of its kind in the San Gabriel Valley, where 480 AIDS cases have been reported and 1,000 are predicted by 1991.Financed so far by the church and a state grant, the center runs several support groups--including one for Spanish-speakers and one for children of AIDS patients--operates a help line and publishes a magazine.
The Rev. Albert Ogle, director of the center, called the new facilities “a real milestone” in the development of specialized programs and services. Employing a full-time staff of three, the center will soon provide home health care for 40 people under a state contract and will eventually operate a shelter for AIDS victims.
