Two Costa Mesa men have been arrested on suspicion of entering a cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains and robbing a mining official of weapons and gold. Harold Eugene Honeycutt, 30, and Brian Matthew Schwartz, 21, were being held in lieu of $10,000 bail each on suspicion of armed robbery, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Detective Steve Mullens said. Thomas Carufel, president of the Western Mining Council, and James Stuflick of Pioneer Town were in Carufel’s cabin between Pioneer Town and Big Bear Lake on Sunday at about 5 p.m. when two men knocked at the door, Mullens said. The men, each holding a pistol and a shotgun and wearing camouflage clothing and makeup, identified themselves as police officers looking for drugs and began searching the cabin. The robbers took two vials of gold valued at $40,000.
