Local News in Brief : Fullerton : Bedell Elected Cal State’s Academic Senate Chief

Sociology professor John W. Bedell has been elected by his peers as the new chairman of the Academic Senate at Cal State Fullerton.
Bedell, who joined the Fullerton faculty in 1969, was head of the sociology department for five years, coordinator of the campus child-development program for two years and director of faculty development for two years.
He was also head chairman of the statewide Academic Senate of California State University in 1982-84. In 1984-86, he was acting associate vice chancellor for the state university system.
A Fullerton resident, Bedell is board president of both the Fullerton Elementary School District and the Fullerton Civic Light Opera. He is also a director of the Orange County School Board Assn.
Also in the recent Fullerton Academic Senate elections, Stewart L. Long of Fullerton, associate professor of economics, was reelected vice chairman. Joyce M. Flocken of Yorba Linda, chairwoman of speech communication, was elected secretary, and Robert S. Feldman of Placentia, professor of history, was elected treasurer.
