Today’s heavy-metal explosion may be illuminating the pop music sky with glaring flash in the pans like Bon Jovi and Whitesnake, but with a new album and tour, AC/DC is once again putting on the dirtiest, meanest and nastiest display of musical pyrotechnics of them all.
The veteran Australian band, celebrating its 15th year together, will perform Saturday night at the San Diego Sports Arena. And comparing them to current darlings such as Bon Jovi is like comparing pit bulls to Chihuahuas.
AC/DC’s music is a cacophonous barrage of screaming guitars, sonic-boom rhythms and delirious vocals. Their lyrics revolve around sex, boozing it up and damnation.
In the studio, the “boys” have been known to party till they drop--indeed, in 1980, former lead singer Bon Scott choked to death on his own vomit after an all-night drinking binge. And, on stage, guitarist Angus Young regularly moons the audience.
But hey, isn’t that what heavy metal’s all about?
