CADAM Signs Contract for GM Design Unit

CADAM Inc. in Burbank signed a 5-year contract with General Motors’ Electronic Data Systems unit to provide software for GM’s computer-aided design, engineering and manufacturing systems.

The software made by CADAM, a subsidiary of Calabasas-based Lockheed Corp., is meant to electronically link GM’s various computer-assisted design and manufacturing operations, and therefore allow GM to develop and deliver its vehicles faster.

CADAM said GM has not confirmed the value of the contract. However, CADAM reported that the auto maker is expected to spend “hundreds of millions of dollars†in the next five years to develop such computer systems using CADAM’s products.

The contract calls for Electronic Data Systems to distribute CADAM’s software throughout GM’s operations and to provide training and technical support.
