Poll Workers

I recently became a poll officer in La Canada. I know that it’s my civic duty to help, but the hours and pay are ridiculous!
I spent 1 1/2 hours in class and 30 minutes on set up on June 6, and 15 hours on duty on Election Day. This is a total of 17 hours. The pay is $35, or $2.05 per hour. How can the county get away with paying 63.5% less than the minimum wage?
If this were private enterprise, the labor commission would be on its case.
