John Brenner of Fullerton, the American record-holder in the shotput, will be sidelined for the rest of the 1988 season after suffering a shattered kneecap in the UCLA weight room Wednesday.
Brenner, 27, underwent what doctors termed a successful surgery Thursday.
A 1984 UCLA graduate, Brenner finished third in last year’s International Amateur Athletic Federation World Championships in Rome. His American record is 73 feet 10 3/4 inches.
